Crossed up

Happy Friday all,

In my daily perusing of the internet, I came across Marvel comic’s next big event, “SEIGE”, which is listed as such:

SIEGE is coming! It’s all been leading up to this universe shattering four issue limited series from the superstar team of Brian Michael Bendis and Olivier Coipel! Following the events of Dark Reign: The List, Norman Osborn sets his sights set on Asgard and nothing will stop him from completing his mission. But what does he want? How do Loki and Thor figure in? And just how does this relate to the inner strife between the Cabal? Marvel’s greatest heroes unite against the deadliest threat they’ve ever faced, but even they have no idea what’s coming next. It’s time for the most jaw dropping comic book event of the decade begins in December with Siege: The Cabal and continues in January’s SIEGE #1!”

And here’s a picture:

Now call me old fashioned, but the idea of dirty capitalists with crazy hair versus a pantheon of Viking warrior gods seems kind of one sided to me.

There was a time when cross-over events filled me with wonder and awe, but I fear that those days might be behind me. However, In honor of my bygone love of the cross-over event, I submit to you, the ten best cross-overs in the history of comicdom. I’m not talking about no namby-pamby one shots either, but full on cross-over events! Oh, and for the record, I warn everyone now, this list is going to be Marvel heavy.

x1

1) CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS: The mother of all cross-overs. The mamma-jamma that started it all. Even knowing only a third of the characters involved, this book still blew my mind.

x10

2) CIVIL WAR: Not just heroes beating up on villains, but heroes beating up on heroes! This one changed the way the Marvel U did business.

x3

3) X-CUTIONER’S SONG: I spoke about this one last week.

x4

4) NO MAN’S LAND: Gotham city got hit by a plague, then an earthquake, so the government says it’s beyond repair.Oh, and Batman is nowhere to be seen. Good stuff.

x9

5) THE AGE OF APOCALYPSE: Basically a giant “What-if”, but a great one.

x7

6) INFINITY GAUNTLET: Cosmic stories can be amazing if done right, and this one was. If a death worshiper becomes a god, how screwed is everyone?

x5

7) WORLD WAR HULK: Hulk smashes everyone, need I say more?

x2

8) THE SINESTRO CORPS WAR: This was everything that is great about Green Lantern. A killer space opera. It also set up BLACKEST NIGHT, which is currently rocking.

x6

9) MAXIMUM CARNAGE: I know that part of me only likes this book because I was a youngster when I read it, but man, I loved watching a bunch of psychos run around, kickin’ Spidey’s backside.

x8

10)  MESSIAH COMPLEX: The best X-over in a great while. The ending was a bit anticlimactic, but still very good.

That’s it for today folks, thanks for stopping in and enjoy the Geek of the Week tomorrow.
