Geek Of The Week: Star Wars Fan Art

Hello again and welcome to another Geek Of The Week. This weeks post is about more Star Wars. I was cracking up earlier this week when I was reading Mr. Wolfs post about Darth Vader not living up to his badassness. (badassness? it kind of sounds right. Right? Its better than badassedness. :) ) If you missed it you should definitely check it out, here. There has to be some reader out their willing to combat these assumptions and engage Mr. Wolf in the comments section. Or maybe Mr. Wolf is right Darth Vader really wasn’t that good of a villain.

So not to continue this seriousness  of the previous post. I would like to appease and satiate our Star Wars fans with some fan made artwork. I just found these coincidentally this week when I was searching for answers to this Darth Vader debate. Once I found these images my feverish search for the truth was quelled. I felt that I needed to post these in order to help the rest of yous deal with what has transpired.

These images really crack me up. I don’t have any source material on how or who created these images. I stumbled across these in blog that had these all collected into a gallery without any info. I’m sure anyone of these artists would love to hear what Mr. Wolf has laid down. I like these images because they are pulling from the greats like Leonardo da Vinci. Most of the time fan artwork is a quick and dirty photoshop of the fan and his beloved character standing in some glowy meadow of weirdness. These are much better than that so enjoy and if you want to see the rest of the images, yes there are more, then check them out, HERE.

Geek Of The Week: Digital Art Creation

Hello Semantink supporters! This week I am going to be geeking out on some computer software that is used to create very detailed artwork found in Games and Movies. I’m sure at this point it is also being used for print ads and other advertising. The software we are talking about is from two competing companies that are ultimately doing similar work, Mudbox and Zbrush.

These are the apps most movie and video game studios use to create their 3d content that needs lots of detail.  Zbrush was used in the movie Pirates of the Caribbean to detail out the cool Pirates. You know the one with the octopus face and all the other varients.  Mudbox was created by some guys at Weta Workshop because they wanted to do things Zbrush couldn’t do at the time. One of the first movies where Mudbox’s capabilities were shown off  was King Kong. These applications are so cool because they really open up the world of 3d to the artist. For those of you that have never touched the world of 3d imagine having a digital block of clay in which to sculpt. This is the best way for me to describe what and how these programs work. Much like how a traditional sculpter would start from a solid block of clay so to does an artist of Mudbox or Zbrush start off with very basic shapes. The artist would then take these basic shapes and turn them into some really cool stuff. The only limit is your own imagination. I personally really enjoy messing around in both of these applications. They are pretty easy to pick up and they allow you to produce some cool stuff. Anyone that likes to create art should check out these programs. Of course I could not leave without posting some cool pics of what some really good artists have created. Enjoy the pics and I’ll meet you all here next week. If you want to see more creations follow the links. Mudbox or Zbrush

Geek Of The Week : Sidewalk Drawings

Hello peoples! Street Fece here with another geek of the week. In this weeks post I am going to talk about an artist in another field. I feel that even though Semanink is focusing on a different form of art style there is still room for appreciation of other artists in the world. This is why I want to introduce you to Julian Beever.

Julian Beever is a great artist that has received a lot of acclaim for his amazing Pavement drawings. Julian works as a freelance artist, based in the UK, creating many different forms of artwork. He as traveled worldwide for commission pieces such as Germany, Spain, U.S., Australia, and Brazil to name a few. To produce his stand out Pavement drawings he uses a technique called anamorphosis.  Anamorphosis is a distorted projection or perspective requiring the viewer to use special devices or occupy a specific vantage point to reconstitute the image. “Ana — morphosis” comes from the Greek words meaning “formed again.” (“Wikipedia”)Leonardo da Vinci is one of the first people to use this method. I really dig this guys work and it looks like it really trips people out that are walking by. Enjoy some of my favorites from his collection. I encourage you to check out his website for the rest of his artwork.

Geek Of The Week : Baman and Piderman

Hello everyone. I hope you enjoyed last weeks post about Shadowhare. I see that Widescreen wants to fight Shadowhare with his group the Tuna Fleet. This could be an epic battle not to miss. Please keep me posted Widescreen.

This weeks post is simple. I am posting a video of two caricatures of characters you already know, Batman and Spiderman. (Bet you cant say: “caricatures of characters” five times fast.) However in this video they are called Baman and Piderman.

Baman and Piderman is an internet miniseries created by Alex Butera. These videos make no sense and really they don’t need to. Baman and Piderman have quite the following and this is steadily growing. G4’s Attack of the Show has shown two of these videos on their around the net segment. Alex seems to keep a low profile and I can’t get much info about him anywheres on the internets. His own blog is very sparse with personal info only letting you know that he animates at the speed of light. I can only imagine what he would say if someone asked where he comes up with the ideas for this show. He would probably tell you that he does a headstand for two hours then drinks some paint in order to prepare his mind and body for the grueling task.

I will tell you that these videos crack me up. They look like a child drew them and when I said they make no sense at all I meant it. In order to enjoy this and his other videos I will ask you to basically unplug your brain for a second and just let these videos take you over freely. Try not to get the theme song stuck in your head. I am hoping that maybe I can get this guy to have Fooperman as a guest on the show. Enjoy :P

Geek Of The Week : Shadowhare

Hello and welcome to the Geek of the Week. It will be my duty to bring you anything nerdy and great that I hear about that needs to be shared with everyone. I love nerding out on stuff so hopefully you will too.

To start off this section of I want to talk about fantasy and superheros. I can remember imagining that I was superman when I was a little kid. Actually I was fooperman because I couldn’t actually say superman at the time. I had the full suit along with a cape. I would never walk when I had this costume on because the cape wouldn’t fly so instead I ran everywhere. It was awesome and no one ever seemed to care. It was fun when I was a kid to fantasize about fighting crooks and saving the world. What happened to those of us that never stopped playing make believe and decided that they were real superheros. Well then you must be Shadowhare, the baddest mofo around. Well maybe not the baddest but falling somewhere between baddest and the worst.

You see Shadowhare never stopped playing and now patrols the streets of Cincinnati. He looks out for crime and does good deeds when he can. His costume isn’t made from some kind of nanotechnology and he does not possess super human strength. He is quite the opposite. His costume is made out of cotton and he is of small stature. One of his first forays in the superhero realm left him bruised, beaten, and with a dislocated shoulder when he came across  a women getting attacked. I commend him for trying. This guy walks the walk and talks the talk. His power is so strong that he was able to get a group together to help him in his task. You can find him listed in the super hero registry here: http://www.worldsuperheroregistry.com/

Behold Shadowhare in action! All I can say is “ALLEGIANCE ASSEMBLE!“
